Technology Leader | Cybersecurity | CoaCH & MENTOR

Hi there! I’m Vishu Cook, and I’m glad you found your way here.

I’m a technology leader with over 25 years of experience guiding teams through complex challenges across multiple IT functions.

Currently, I serve as Director of Cybersecurity at one of the largest online-only banks, where I lead engineers in developing secure authentication solutions.

But numbers only tell part of the story.

My path to technology leadership wasn’t traditional. Born in Sri Lanka and raised in India, I originally studied Chemical Engineering before discovering my passion for technology and project management. I moved to the United States in 2006, and Charlotte, North Carolina has been home ever since.

What drives me professionally is developing people. I’ve spent my career coaching teams, advocating for direct reports, and helping others navigate their career journeys. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone discover their potential or seeing a team member get promoted.

Outside the office, I’m an athlete at heart—competing nationally in track and field during my college years shaped my approach to goal setting and resilience. Today, you’ll find me on tennis courts, at Orangetheory classes, or chasing international tennis tournaments with my husband. We’re on a mission to attend all four Grand Slams, which combines my love of travel with my passion for sport.

I’m also a voracious reader, particularly drawn to leadership and personal development books, though my monthly book club keeps me balanced with fiction. I hold an MBA with a focus on Data Science and Business Analytics, along with certifications including PMP and CISSP.

Recently, my perspective on leadership, resilience, and what truly matters has been sharpened by an unexpected teacher: a breast cancer diagnosis in January 2025. This experience became an intensive course in project management, stakeholder communication, risk assessment, and team leadership—just with higher stakes and more hospital gowns than usual. After six chemotherapy cycles, surgery, and radiation, I officially began my road to recovery on August 26th, 2025. Throughout this journey, three principles guided me: everything happens for a reason (even when we can’t see it), focusing only on what’s within my control, and maintaining deep gratitude.
